What do you think of the Riddler in Batman?

Riddler is the infamous Batman villain and one of the smartest people in the world’s best detective rogue gallery. After first appearing in Detective Comics #140 in 1948, the character has gone through numerous iterations over the decades.

He has a version of green stockings that he first met in 1948 in the world, which gradually evolved into a green suit with purple accents. We also got more nose-over versions with Riddler iterations, starting with a question-mark-covered costume and sometimes carrying a question-mark wand.

Riddler in Frank Gorshin’s 1960s Adam West Batman series (and movies) used both a green suit look and a green stocking look. Then we saw Jim Carrey step into those stockings in Batman Forever in 1995, and that was the villain’s last silver screen appearance. But we saw another interpretation of Riddler on the Gotham TV show a few years ago, which led to Edward Nygma wearing a fancy suit again.

Thanks to Matt Reeve’s upcoming The Batman, slated for release on March 4th, we’ve got another look at Riddler and it’s probably the easiest we’ve ever seen. Looking for a more glamorous look and a feel that is definitely more grounded in reality (home-made), Paul Dano’s Riddler will bring something unique to Robert Pattinson’s rogue gallery.

Personally, I’m looking forward to Dano’s performance as a Riddler more than this costume. An interesting interpretation of Riddler, but I’m a huge fan of the more exaggerated E. Nygma. It also feels a bit like the Zodiac Killer sign with a question mark on his nose. That said, Reeves directed one of the best recent trilogy with Planet of the Apes, and Dano is a fantastic actor to join with some great actors. So I’m confident I’m leaving The Batman in despair.
