Ubisoft Announces Team-Based Arena Combat Game Project Q

Ubisoft has officially unveiled Project Q, a multiplayer arena battler that leaked last year.

A list of PC games to be released in September 2021 has been datamined and leaked from Nvidia’s GeForce Now. As Eurogamer reported at the time, Project Q was one of four codenamed titles listed by Ubisoft, and Ubisoft announced a DCMA takedown on that list after it went online.

The French publisher confirmed the existence of Project Q on Twitter on Saturday, saying the game is in early development and players can sign up for the upcoming gameplay tests. The duration of this test is unknown. Ubisoft later revealed in the same Twitter thread that Project Q is not Battle Royale and will feature multiple PvP modes. They also stated that there are no plans to add NFTs to the game. This is clearly a concern given Ubisoft’s enthusiastic foray into the concept of not-so-reputable for the Quartz platform.

A leaked playtest video from Exputer shows a few matches from the game. It looks like it’s a colorful third-person shooter no different than Fortnite, with wacky weapons like pyrotechnics and wands, and even melee items like Thor’s hammer and Mjolnir.

According to Project Q’s registration site, the game will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via Ubisoft Connect. There is no release window.

In other recent Ubisoft news, it appears that several private companies are trying to acquire the publisher. In conjunction with other new multiplayer titles, a new Ghost Recon game is in development.
