Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown Postponed to 2023, Last Generation Version Canceled

Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown delayed. The game was scheduled for release this September, but has been pushed back to 2023.

The long-awaited resurgence of the dormant racing franchise will require more time in stores to revamp the system, the statement partially reads, according to an update from publisher Nacon:

“We know many of you will be disappointed with the support of a lot of fans of the series, but the goal of Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown is to spend more time developing and creating the most polished gaming experience in the franchise.”

To mitigate the blow, the team announced plans to hold a closed beta at some point in the future, giving players a chance to sit in the driver’s seat before launch.

Nacon has also decided to cancel the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the Solar Crown “to make the most of the technology on modern consoles.” Switch, PC. The Solar Crown joins the Gotham Knights with another intergenerational title that abandons the last-generation port planned to maximize the current-generation experience.

Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown was first unveiled in 2020 and is the first entry in the franchise since 2012’s Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legends (the last Unlimited game was Unlimited 2 in 2011). The game challenges racing fans to compete in a race across the expansive Hong Kong Island as part of one of two clans: The Streets and The Sharps. Outside of a faction, players can explore and expand the headquarters of their chosen faction.
