Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake development switched to original developer

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a beloved installment in the action-adventure series, originally developed in 2003 by Ubisoft Montreal.

In September 2020, Ubisoft announced a remake of the Sands of Time, this time with Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai in development. Originally scheduled for release in January 2021, Ubisoft has announced that the remake has been delayed by two months towards the end of 2020. Just three months later, Ubisoft announced that Sands of Time had been postponed indefinitely, and fans began to wonder what was going on with this remake. It sounds like Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai haven’t figured out the remake. Because now the publisher has announced that development of the remake has moved to Ubisoft Montreal, the original creator of the game.

Prince of Persia’s official Twitter account said: “The development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake will now be led by Ubisoft Montreal, the birthplace of the epic Sands of Time trilogy.” “This decision is an important step and the team, based on the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, will now take the time needed to reshape the scope of the game to provide the best experience for this remake of any game. - Time Classic, when you are ready. Thank you for your continued support and patience throughout development. Rest assured we will update our progress in future updates.”

As you can see, the remake doesn’t have a new release date as a result of these changes and is theoretically delayed indefinitely. If the project had a release date attached to it, then today’s news most likely brought a new delay anyway.
