Pokémon Legends: Arceus Sells 6.5 Million Copies in Just 7 Days

Astonishingly, Pokémon Legends: Arceus sold a whopping 6.5 million copies in just 7 days from its January 28th release.

These sales came on the same day Nintendo released its quarterly results. The company says the Switch has sold 103 million units, beating the lifetime sales of the Wii. Nintendo also revealed in its results that it has not changed its investment plans in light of recent acquisitions (see Microsoft and Sony) and that hybrid home consoles are in the middle of their lifecycle.

Oddly enough, Nintendo didn’t comment on Game Freak’s latest release, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, despite revealing sales of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and games like Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Instead, the Kyoto-based company randomly announced Pokémon Legends: Arceus sales numbers in a tweet hours later.

The Nintendo of America tweet read: “Thanks to the over 6.5 million explorers around the world who have already started exciting new adventures in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.” “I hope to load more potato cakes before the next research mission.”

It’s no surprise that Pokémon Legends: Arceus is selling really well. Not only is it a great game that Game Informer gives it an 8.75 out of 10, Nintendo’s partnership with Game Freak always produces games that sell well. The recent Pokémon remakes Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have already sold less than 14 million copies, while the previous main game, Pokémon Sword and Shield, the best-selling game in Pokémon history, sold 23.9 million copies.
