The Kirby Twitter account posted about the milestones this morning. Along with the tweet, “2022 is the 30th anniversary of the Kirby series! Please look forward to various #Kirby30 activities in the future.” A previous tweet actually announced the anniversary in Japanese, and to commemorate it, they shared a link to a “teaser site” with commemorative wallpapers. A rough translation of the tweet states that there may be other “products and campaigns”. For now, adorable wallpapers are a great way to start Kirby’s year.
Kirby’s Dreamland was released for the Game Boy in 1992, and it soon became one of the must-have games for handheld systems, at least for me. The laid-back platform and whimsical stage and characters set the stage for Kirby’s follow-up adventures on the NES, SNES, Nintendo 64 and more. Here are some fun facts about the first game. The Japanese title Hoshi no Kirby translates as “star Kirby,” which explains the absorbent hero’s tendency to ride on the stars and cough.
