EA Announces No EA Play Live Events This Year

EA has announced that it will not be hosting its regular EA Play Live event this year, an event traditionally used by the company to reveal new games and share more information about existing games, typically held over the summer.

This news is delivered via IGN. The source reported that instead of hosting an EA Play Live event as it did last summer, the publisher will reveal more about the project “when the time comes for each project.” Here’s what an EA representative told IGN in a statement to the publication:

“We love EA Play Live because it’s the way we connect with players and share what’s new with all of you. However, this year is not a situation where you can show everything on one date. We’ve got some exciting things going on in our world class studios and we’ll be revealing a lot more about these projects this year when the time is right for them. We look forward to spending time with you throughout the year.”

The EA Play Live event essentially became a showcase for EA’s E3, and the publishers chose to hold it around the same time as E3. I have been playing EA Play Live since 2016. Before the global COVID-19 pandemic began, this event was a live face-to-face event where players could play what was shown in the showcase. However, as a result of the pandemic, the event has become a hot one, similar to Nintendo Direct or PlayStation State of Play.

The news comes just months after it was announced that E3 would not be held as this year’s in-person events were suspended. However, the same event as Geoff Keighley’s E3, the Summer Games Fest goes on as usual this year.
