Atlus celebrates 1 million sales of Shin Megami Tensei V

Atlus has released groundbreaking sales figures for their latest Shin Megami Tensei game on Switch, which boasts a total of seven-digit sales copies. Shin Megami Tensei V has officially sold over 1 million copies worldwide.

The news came from a tweet on the Altus_West Twitter account, which caused massive sales of the exclusive Switch JRPG. The tweet only states that the number one million represents total worldwide sales, but we didn’t break that number by sales units for each region.

Additionally, the tweet seen above contains an artwork depicting the protagonist of SMTV, drawn by character designer Masayuki Doi as a token of appreciation to fans who have purchased the game.

The turn of the year brought news that SMTV had topped the series sales charts, claiming that Atlus had sold 800,000 copies, and has been selling steadily ever since. The previous entry, the Shin Megami Tensei IV on the 3DS in 2014 sold over 600,000 copies, an impressive number for a franchise that has not yet entered the mainstream. Meanwhile, SMTV still has a long way to go to catch up with Persona 5 Royal, the latest Shin Megami Tensei spinoff that has sold over 1.8 million copies worldwide, according to Gematsu since June.

Shin Megami Tensei V tells the story of a modern Tokyo student who is transported to an apocalyptic alternate reality and gets caught up in a war between angels and demons.
